Always Tired? 4 Energy-Boosting Tips from a Holistic Nutritionist

Welcome, I’m most excited to write this article today because I so deeply know what it’s like to always feel exhausted. Before I became a Holistic Nutritionist, I was ALWAYS tired.

When I increased my energy levels (in the same ways I share below), my life changed forever in more ways than I can express.

And yours can, too.

So let’s jump in:

Tips for more energy: How this article is different

When I Google’d, looking for answers as to why I was always tired before I became a Nutritionist, I found blog posts that were good. Not great, not the most helpful in the world, but some of them had some solid recommendations.

The problem is, when you’re always tired, you can only make so many changes at a time. And if they don’t kick in fast, they aren’t motivating, and you start to lose hope.

This article will be short on tips, and it’ll explain WHY a new change will help. That gives you the motivation to put it into place (and boost your energy levels) easily.

So, how can you change your energy levels from ‘always tired’ to totally energized?

First, you MUST care for your stress glands (adrenals).

If you don’t you’ll feel:

  • exhausted
  • have a mid-morning and mid-afternoon energy slump
  • get occasional or frequent head rushes
  • have low blood pressure
  • exhausted, completely depleted after stressful events
  • you’ll crave salt like a mofo
  • and you’ll likely be drinking LOTS of coffee (or craving it) and lots of sweets

Awful, right? And yet, your stress glands (adrenals) are RARELY talked about in connection with your energy levels.

But when a new client mentions exhaustion that doesn’t go away, tied with a history of stress, my mind immediately jumps to them needing adrenal support.

Here are a few tips to nourish your adrenals naturally:

  1. Eat often. I mean it. Set an alarm for every 2.5 hours (during the day) and eat something wholesome. This nourishes your blood sugar levels, which keeps your brain constantly getting fuel. And when your brain is fueled, you feel motivated, happy and clear-headed.

  2. Eat complex carbs at most, or every, meal. Lentils, beans, quinoa, brown rice and oats are all excellent sources of complex carbs. Go nuts on them! Complex carbohydrates break down slowly in the body and supply a steady stream of your body’s favourite fuel (glucose) to your brain. That keeps it running on high, and helps you feel energized.

  3. Boost your energy levels with safe supplements for you. There are so many different deficiencies and imbalances that can cause you to feel exhausted all the time. By refilling those deficiencies naturally, you’ll trade in your always tired state for one that feels refreshed, energized and ready for the day. 4. Stop drinking coffee or black tea on an empty stomach. Always remember to eat breakfast before drinking coffee. That way, your body feels energized, because the caffeine hits you more slowly. Tell yourself, “If I don’t have time to eat, I don’t have time for coffee.” And mean it. This keeps your blood sugar levels stable, and prevents them from being all over the place (causing energy highs and defined lows) throughout the rest of the day. In fact, this is SO important with breakfast especially, because if you start the day out with unbalanced blood sugar levels, even if you eat really well the rest of the day, you’ll still feel exhausted and unmotivated. So make sure to leave your always tired-self behind, and step into vibrant energy levels by always drinking caffeine of any kind on a FULL stomach.

Second, eat better food.

What you put into your body is what you can expect out of it.

If you’re eating packaged, low-energy food, you’ll feel pretty low energy yourself.

If you’re eating tons of organic, fresh food, you’ll notice your mood and energy levels lift.

So start focusing on improving the quality of your food, and watch your energy levels soar.

Third, be nicer to yourself.

Start speaking more kindly to and about yourself. Stop telling yourself and others that you’re lazy, and, combined with the tips above, you’ll notice your life start to change.

Notice when you DO accomplish things. Congratulate yourself and speak to others about that.

Notice when you HAVE energy, and be proud of yourself and the changes you made to get yourself there.

And notice when you start saying YES! to more exciting, energy-requiring things, and be thrilled with the amazing person you’re becoming: full of joy for the adventures you’re starting to take part in.

Lastly, know what you want to DO with your new-found energy levels.

No matter how crazy or stupid or out there or unbelievable your goal is, if it’s in your heart, you owe it to yourself to make it happen.

That I know for sure.

So think on this question, it’s a good one: What DO I want to do with all of my new-found energy?

Don’t pick the scaredy-cat, easily-achieveable goal that only requires 10% of your effort. It won’t motivate you enough to make it past the first bump in the road.

Choose the big, huge, juicy, scary, terrifying, heart-beats-fast, palms-start-to-sweat goal in your heart.

The one that says, “I want to run a marathon!” or “I want to do one of those crazy mud races!”. Something big, scary, and certainly one you’re not sure you can actually make happen.

And then work for the energy required to make it happen, using the tips above, staying motivated by reminding yourself of the reasons I included as to why they work.

And then jump into my amazing Facebook Community, Glow Nutritional Consulting and let me know along the way what you’re going for, and when you’ve nailed it.

Because I know you’re driven, or you wouldn’t be here.

So it’s not a question of ‘if’ you can do it.

Because I know, and deep down you do, too, that you can do it.

Let me repeat that: you can do it,
